Lutheran Volunteer Corps is a 501(c)3 organization that places enthusiastic, talented people at a wide variety of non-profit organizations across the country for a year of service.

Volunteers make a difference in fields such as housing and homelessness, health care, community development, environmental concerns, children and youth, GLBT issues, immigration, women’s rights, and many more.

Some volunteers work directly with people to provide services; others work as support staff, expanding the reach and influence of their respective organizations.

What does it take to bring a dedicated, energetic volunteer to your organization?

  • Basics: Organizations are qualified to apply for a Lutheran Volunteer Corps volunteer if they are a 501(3)c non-profit and have an office or other workplace within reasonable commuting distance by public transit from the volunteers’ houses in urban areas.
  • Mission and focus : LVC is looking for agencies that address issues of social justice – making sure everyone has access to basic resources and opportunities.  We look forward to working with organizations that demonstrate excellence in their work, and that have a policy of openness and non-discrimination toward people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, religious expressions and racial backgrounds. • Commitment to mentoring: One of the things volunteers hope to receive from their year of service is a deeper understanding of the barriers to social justice, and the ways that people work to bring them down, whether through meeting basic needs or through challenging unjust dynamics in society.  A successful volunteer workplace is interested in mentoring by example and with supportive supervision.
