Pastor Paul Erickson lived in Casa Caritas in 1983-84 and worked at St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center. He writes, "My housemates (Rachel Hefte, Lynn Foster, and JoAnn Schultz) and I were, I believe, the second group of volunteers to live in the parsonage by Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter, and we were the ones who finally named it. This was one of our first tasks as a house, and we chose the name because we liked the Taize chant, Ubi Caritas. (Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est; Where charity and love prevail, God is ever found.) We hoped and prayed that the house would be a place rooted in love and compassion, that no matter what else we would experience in our jobs and our life in the city, we would know that as we entered the house, we could trust that love would abound. I am grateful for my year in LVC, and for the many ways it continues to guide and shape faithful advocates for compassion and justice."
Pastor Paul Erickson is currently serving as Assistant to the Bishop for Evangelical Mission in the Saint Paul Area Synod.
