Community Representative
The Rev. Dr. Julius Carroll grew up in Queens, New York and (from 9 years of age) has been a Lutheran within the ELCA and its predecessor bodies. His wife Geneva and he have 6 surviving children (having lost a son in 1994 due to a blood clot the result of a dirt bike accident) and 14 grandchildren.
Julius is on the faculty of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary teaching in the fields of contextual education, contextual theology and multicultural ministries. In the early-1990's he served as pastor of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, a congregation in Washington, D.C. that is the oldest African American Lutheran congregation on the Mainland of the USA, founded in 1885. He fondly recalls LVC volunteers sneaking away from Luther Place and worshipping with Redeemer.
On the board, Julius serves on Journey to Inclusive Community (JIC) and executive committees and he is most drawn to the core practice of social justice.
