Lutheran Volunteer Corps has named Laurie Beckman Yetzer its Jubilee project developer. Laurie will help LVC research and possibly develop a new, non-residential model of volunteer servant-leadership, accessible to a diverse corps of Volunteers, including retired people. The project will advance LVC’s mission, invite and support engagement with LVC’s core practices and advance LVC’s Journey to an Inclusive Community. Laurie’s first day of work will be September 1.
The Jubilee project development is partially supported by a two-year grant from the Lutheran Services for the Elderly Endowment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Jubilee project is one component of the Volunteers in Vogue initiative of LVC and Lutheran Services in America, the national network of Lutheran social ministries.
Laurie, a rostered diaconal minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, previously served as LVC’s interim executive director, 2004-2005, and its Twin Cities coordinator, 2001-2004. Most recently, Laurie has served as the Interfaith Children’s Advocacy Network Organizer of the Minnesota Joint Religious Legislative Coalition and as diaconal minister for Richfield Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She is also a volunteer leader in the Minneapolis Area Synod, serving on the synod candidacy committee and as co-convener of the synod anti-racism iniative. Laurie received her masters degree from Luther Seminary and her bachelors from Augsburg College.
An installation service is being planned. Laurie’s office will be at the LVC Twin Cities office housed at Christ English Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
