What is a Local Support Committee (LSC)?
The Local Support Committee is a group of community members, members of support congregations, alumni of LVC, and others who come together to support the current volunteers and LVC in fulfilling their mission.
What do Local Support Committees (LSCs) do?
LSCs support current Volunteers in Lutheran Volunteer Corps by:
- Building relationships with the current volunteers to welcome them to a new city and community.
- Responding to the needs of the current volunteers such as helping them get to the airport or providing them resources and ways to connect to their new community.
- Becoming a non-residential host family for one of the volunteers or an entire house of volunteers.
- Being Snack ‘n’ Yak leaders. Two Snack ‘n’ Yak leaders are paired up with one house to facilitate discussions on conflict resolution, spirituality, and building a covenant.
- Planning social events for the current Volunteers and LSC members to enjoy.
- LSCs help find, move, and furnish LVC houses. Please click here for a current list of House needs.
- LSCs organize fundraisers and events for LVC in each city. Click here for a list of events.
- LSCs help recruit and approve placement organizations. LVC relies largely on word of mouth recommendations for new possible placement organizations. LSC members recommend placement organizations and a smaller committee for each LSC help the City Coordinator review and approve placement applications.
- LSCs help strengthen LVC’s anti-racism work and move forward on our Journey to an Inclusive Community.
