Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS. Lifelong’s food program, the Chicken Soup Brigade, provides home-cooked meals and nutritious groceries to clients with HIV/AIDS. The food program’s mission has recently expanded to include serving people with other life-challenging illnesses. The Volunteer coordinates, supervises and documents kitchen and warehouse volunteers; communicates with agency volunteer coordinator to ensure adequate coverage; coordinates Care to Shop - a food donation program targeting shoppers in local grocery stores; participates in the implementation of expanded food mission; helps in weekly food preparation and packaging; assists with inventory and weekly client count; and assists with satellite location food deliveries and pick-up of food purchases as needed. The Volunteer works with a diverse group of co-workers, volunteers, and clients, and must be comfortable with people of all races, genders, sexual orientations and abilities (including mental illness and chemical dependencies). Topics of sexuality and sexual orientation are an integral part of everyday prevention and care work. The Volunteer must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive a van, and should be able to lift 50 pounds. www.llaa.org
